Success Through Sport

The programme is an eight-week course targeting unemployed adults in the local area between the ages of 18-40 years old and as football is the catalyst it will feature for at least one hour each session

Participants are mentored by a CITC coach on how to become a football coach, and take part in practical football sessions.

In addition to the skills and the health benefits gained from the practical sessions participants will also take part in four hour long workshops.  Two of these workshops will have an employability focus; participants will be advised on CV writing, job searches and interview techniques.  The remaining two will have an emphasis on health and provide participants with information on how to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Sam Brown the current City Street Coordinator for CITC is proof of how people can change their lives around.

Sam completed the course four years ago and his hard work and willingness to make a difference in his life, and a couple of years doing voluntary work have been rewarded by now gaining full time employment with the Club. Sam credits the Success Through Sport programme for his turnaround.

“I was going one way only but by enrolling on the course, I decided enough is enough, and made a significant change, I completed the course, it was fun, enjoyable and I became fitter.

“I became a volunteer and was offered casual work at the club, I tried my best to make a good impression, and eventually a full time job came my way.

“I really surprised myself- the best thing about the course is it gave me confidence, and also the ability to become more sociable, and make new friends.”

Participants will gain a number of beneficial skills from the programme which include organisation, communication and confidence, all of which are key competencies potential employers look for.
