A fine 84th minute free-kick from Adnan Ahmed gave Tranmere the three points they scarcely deserved this afternoon at the Regional Athletics Arena.
City were beaten 3-2 by an experienced Rovers side despite dominating the game for large periods. Trailing 2-1 at the break the young Blues fought back and there only looked like being one winner when Javan Vidal equalised with a header from a Shaleum Logan cross after 78 minutes.
It had started well for City as Adam Clayton rounded off a good move to fire the Blues in front after just eight minutes, but two goals from Tom Beahon (24 and 41 minutes) saw the Wirral side head into the break in the lead.
Within five minutes of the second half, experienced keeper John Achterberg had twice denied City, first stopping substitute Poole's effort then another smart stop saw Curtis Obeng cursing the big keeper after a flowing move.
As City continued to dominate the deserved leveller came 12 minues from time before Ahmed's 20-yard-free-kick claimed all three points.
City:
Martin, Obeng, Logan, McDonald, Breen, M.Daly (Poole 46), Vidal, Grimes, Clayton, Marshall, Moore (Mouritsen 72).
