Head of Academy Mark Allen is warning his players that league position means nothing ahead of City’s FA Youth Cup tie against Corby Town.
The young Blues play their football in the Barclays Premier Academy League, while their third-round opponents compete in the Northants Senior Youth League.
But Corby have proved they are no pushovers, and negotiated a tricky route to the match with City, including beating npower League One side Colchester United 2-0.
Allen concedes that being drawn at home is always an advantage, but has issued a reminder that nothing should ever be taken for granted when it comes to a cup tie.
“It’s the third round of the FA Youth Cup and it’s a competition that we’d obviously like to do as well as we can in,” Allen said.
“Irrespective of where Corby are in terms of the league - because I think that’s irrelevant when it comes to cup games - we will be preparing as we would for any other Academy game.
As far as it goes with any cup competition, it’s best to take it a round at a time
"We’re very grateful we got a home tie and are playing at Hyde. Everybody’s really looking forward to it and our first target is to progress through to the next round.”
The tie, on Wednesday 30 November, is at Hyde FC’s Ewen Fields ground, kick off 7pm. Tickets are £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.
Please note admission is only available at the ground. There will be no ticket sales from the box office, online or over the telephone.
