A City fan's guide to Atlanta part 2
- Fri 11 Jun 2010, 10:58AM
A bohemian hangout with a rich mix of art, theater, and shopping, it has been the epicenter of all things alternative for many years.
The Brewhouse Cafe in Little Five Points is a favorite community-gathering place for Premier League Fans in the city. With a typical brewpub menu and extensive beer list, the Brewhouse opens for business whenever there is Premier League action on the satellite.
While you’re in “L5P”, pop down the street into any of the many bars, buy vintage clothing, get a tattoo, and grab a burger at The Vortex (where they’re known for their great food and notoriously rude wait staff, which they’re actually quite proud of). Or if you’re craving pizza, Savage Pizza is a local favorite.
Midtown
Culture meets cool in this fastest growing area of the city.
If you’re a beer connoisseur, your first stop in Midtown must be TAP. This Gastro Pub features “real ale” served at 55 degrees from a British beer engine. Sit on the patio overlooking Peachtree Street and enjoy the hustle & bustle of the city’s art & financial district.
If you prefer a quieter view, walk down the street to The Nook. This neighborhood Tavern overlooks Piedmont Park – the centerpiece for urbanites’ outdoor recreation.
Adjacent to Piedmont Park is The Atlanta Botanical Gardens. The Garden consists of 30 acres of specialty flower gardens, a Woodland Shade garden, a conservation garden and a waterlily pool. The Children's Garden brings plant education and interactive entertainment together with its themed gardens. Atlantans are excited about a new “canopy-walk” featuring a side-walk high in the trees that just opened this Spring.
Also nearby is the leading art museum in the Southeast United States, The High.
A short bus ride east of Midtown is the Fernbank Museum of Natural History
Come face to face with the world's largest dinosaurs, explore the development of life on Earth through the landscapes of present-day Georgia, connect with cultures from around the globe, engage in a variety of hands-on exhibits and enjoy the incredible 5-story experience of an IMAX® film.
