I’ve got to give it to Joleon Lescott – he’s probably in the best shape he’s ever been and is in the gym working hard every day. Not that it helped him when it really mattered…
He’s quite a strong lad and I’m pleased for him because he’s playing well, training hard and looking to start this season the way he finished the last, but… I’ve told him that there’s no need to pump the weights – well, not when you’ve got a natural body strength like me!
Of course, he took the bait and wanted to put me in my place – my response? Get real mate! He challenged me to an arm wrestling contest and I accepted to keep him happy. The fact is, he couldn’t push my arm down no matter how hard he tried (and I reckon he gave it everything!).
I let him take the draw, but between you and me, I was taking it easy on him. Still, he seemed happy with a tie so I’ll let him go on thinking all that training is paying off. Just hope he doesn’t read this.
Having said that, Joleon, Nigel, Vinny – all the lads – are like family and that’s why I think we’ll have a fantastic season. Winning the FA Cup has changed us mentally and there is a different feeling among the whole squad. We’ve won one trophy and now we all think the sky’s the limit – and why not?
We’ve got the players and the belief now, so anything is possible. Exciting times, folks!
...Micah's diary day 12
One member of the team who gets a load of stick in the papers is Mario Balotelli and while he is a colourful character, the lads love him and he’s fantastic with us all in return, but nobody sees that outside of the club. There’s never a dull moment when Mario’s around, but he’s actually quite a shy lad in reality.
That might surprise a few people but that’s what he’s really like and I know our fans have really taken to him, too. I can see him having a really good season and being a big player for us this year.
Two of the lads have left in the last few days with Jerome Boateng returning to Germany and Shay Given joining Villa. They’ll both be missed, but particularly Shay who I know would have been happy to end his career with City.
Sometimes things don’t work out like that and all the boys wish him well with his new club – I bet he has a blinder when he plays us, too!
I can’t finish without mentioning Wrighty’s goal against Vancouver. I can’t believe he’s been here that long and is still scoring goals like that. I just hope I’m that good when I’m in my mid-thirties, ha, ha! A class goal from a class guy. Keep ‘em coming Shaun and he’s now the official tour leading scorer with, erm, two. Two more than me, though.
Well, enough from me. I think we might have a day off tomorrow so I’ll let you know what I get up tp. Until then, take it easy and hope it’s not raining back home.
