Summer tour: Micah's diary, day 13

Well, day 13 of our Summer Tour and Lescott is still trying to find a sport he’s better at than me.

Today he tried basketball but failed miserably, so maybe he should just accept it’s not going to happen. Still, I suppose he’ll keep trying and I expect him to come up with something tomorrow.

He’s been going on about a restaurant nearby called The Cheesecake Factory so we had a trip out there today and it was well worth the 15-minute walk.

They sell every type of cheesecake known to man and they tasted pretty good – Joleon has a thing for cheesecake, so we took a big carry-out back to the hotel.

I had a day off today but didn’t really do that much. I spent most of the morning recharging my batteries with a lie in and relaxed by the pool for an hour or so.

We had a barbecue at the hotel the night before in honour of Patrick Vieira, who finally left his desk job to come out and visit us

Needless to say he got plenty of stick from the boys now he’s going to be wearing a suit instead of football boots. It is great to see him out here and the lads are made up that he’s still going to be around.

He had a lot of offers from around the world, but I think it says a heck of a lot about this football club that he decided to take on the role he has. The guy is a legend in every sense of the word and I know he’ll always be around to offer advice.

I saw him playing tennis before but he has woeful technique – woeful! Maybe he should take on Lescott because they are bound to be about the same ability. And I can’t let it pass that I heard Patrick was at an event today where he was reduced to nutmegging five-year-olds – well, that’s probably about his level now he’s a pensioner!

Only joking – I love the guy and like I said, it’s great to have him around.

I’m not feeling particularly homesick yet. I’ve enjoyed this tour and my ankle is fine now so I should be OK for Sunday’s game with LA Galaxy. It should be a good game and it will be good to see David Beckham and Landon Donovan again.

Finally, another member of last year’s squad has gone with Jo Silva leaving. Jo was a decent lad who never moaned or caused trouble for the coaches. And like all Brazilians, he liked to party! All the lads wish him well because he was good fun and a nice guy.

That’s it for me. See you tomorrow…
