Summer tour: San Francisco diary with Sharon Latham

It was an early start for me on our first morning in San Francisco, however, being the official club photographer, there’s always someone who thinks they can do better – this time it was Joleon Lescott.

Above is his effort -  not a bad snap from our England defender who had quite a steady hand… but don’t give up your day job mate!

I set off through the streets of San Francisco for some material for the Summer Tour feature in our ManC mag, driven around by Patrick, an ex-Belfast lad who is now a fully-fledged San Fran citizen. He knows all the sneaky routes through town and is happy to show me the sights of the city where the only down side is the weather being not the brightest. Bit like home, really!

Because of the fog,  Golden Gate Bridge is barely visible, but still an amazing thing to photograph and I’ve got some great shots with the mist adding to the ambiance, which is a big word for me this early in the day!  Up with the larks though, were the surfers taking in the waves under the bridge - no wonder they had wet suits on. Definitely not LA weather here.

Just a short drive down the front and Patrick managed to get me a closer view of the famous former prison Alcatraz – a very desolate and weird looking place. I would have loved to have gone over to see it but no time I’m afraid – that’s for another trip, perhaps.

Back at the ranch and Roberto  Mancini has a team meeting with the players before starting some stretching exercises, all done in the comfort of the team’s hotel base.

All the lads stretch out those muscles ready for today’s game while Roberto keeps a watchful eye over everyone, making sure they are all following the advice of Simon Bitcon, our Head of Strength and Conditioning coach.

I thought it was just my camera equipment everyone has a fascination with but not so. Dale from Citytv had his video camera stolen by Attillio Lombardo who decided he would like to try a career as a camera man. Let’s hope Dale gets it back in time for the rest of the tour!
