After a somewhat disjointed league programme over the last few weeks, City Ladies round off the year by playing Cardiff City LFC on Sunday at the Regional Athletics Arena.
While City’s match was rained-off last weekend Cardiff City were on the road earned an away point in a 0-0 draw against the leagues basement team Barnet.
Founded in 1975 as Llanedeyrn Ladies Football Club after a local charity match, and after a few years in the South West League, it wasn’t until 1981 that the club decided to change its name to Cardiff.
Cardiff currently sit in sixth place in the National Division taking 8 points from their first 9 matches, having won only one of their last 6 in all competitions. Last season they also finished eighth in their first season back in the National Division since they were relegated back in 2007/08.
Leigh Wood commented this week after training:
“This week match against Cardiff City Ladies will be our first time we have ever faced them. After our loss to Charlton last time out we have to make sure that we compete and win our individual battles all over the pitch.
Cardiff are a team that don't concede many goals, so we know that we will have to move the ball with a good tempo and purpose to break them down and create chances. If we can keep our concentration levels high and restrict them from making too many chances, we will hopefully get the positive result we are looking for.”
