Coventry v City Ladies: Preview

It's FA Women's 4th Round weekend and City Ladies head to Coventry.

City last faced the Sky Blues in early October running out 2-1 victors after a much improved second half performance.

Since the last meeting Coventry have changed their management as Paul Cudby stepped down at the end of October. Cudby who took in charge 2008, lead them to two consecutive promotions. Chris Holloway has been the man charged with the responsibility of continuing Cudby’s good work and he started well, leading Coventry to back-to-back victories over Derby County in the League Cup and Cardiff City in the League.

Whoever progresses into the 5th Round will face a tough task as the Women's Super League (WSL) teams will then enter the fray. So with the opportunity to test themselves against top level opponents both teams will be looking to progress.

The fitness of the Citizens squad will be assessed before the weekend. A long term injury to midfielder Nicola Worthington (ankle) rules her out as well as Amanda Goodwin, who has decided to leave the club. This however provides an opportunity for one or two of the highly talented reserves players to stake a place in the first team squad in the coming weeks.

Leigh Wood gave us his thoughts on the weekends match-up:

“After last week’s league draw against Watford, we go into this FA Cup game looking to carry on our good run of results which has seen us progress to the Manchester County Cup final, FA Cup 4th Round and remain unbeaten in the league this calendar year.

We have already beaten Coventry this season, but we won't be taking anything for granted as we know them to be a strong, well organised team who have good players that can hurt you.

Their new manager has now had time implement his ideas into his squad and we know we will be in for a tough test. However we know that if we can show good quality on the ball, good concentration levels and have that little bit of luck we can get the positive result we are looking for”

If you’re in the Coventry area and want to catch City Ladies in action, the match is a 2pm kick off at Bedworth United FC, Coventry Road, CV12 8NN
