City Ladies eased into the Final of the Manchester FA Women's County Cup with a professional performance against near neighbours Curzon Ashton.
Seven first half goals were enough to seal the victory and the Blues were comfortable in the second half, seeing the game out without really being caused any trouble throughout the 90 minutes.
City were made to wait ten minutes before netting their first of the day. Sarah Danby, who proved to be a thorn in Curzon's side all game, flighted a freekick over to the far post evading all opposition heads and left Abbie McManus with a simple tap in from two yards. The goals then flowed steadily for the Citizens with Caroline Ward netting a low 18 yard drive on 13 minutes, only three minutes later it was 3-0 when Danby whipped an inswinging corner to the far post to extend the lead.
Just after the 20 minute mark Saffron Jordan, leading the line this weekend, grabbed the first of her brace and found the net again on the half hour to make it 5-0. With no player over the age of 21 in the squad, City were certainly looking impressive.
Captain Carly Bayley got in on the act after 34 minutes curling a right footed shot into the top left hand corner leaving the Curzon keeper rooted to the spot as the ball nestled in the back of the net.
The magnificent seven scoreline was completed a minute before the break when Danby got her second of the match, after good build up play and a neat combination with Bayley she crossed towards the far post. With the wind having a slight effect on the ball the keeper may have miss-judged the flight as it hit the far post and bounced in. The half time whistle sounded with City in total command.
With the referee allowing roll-off/on substitutes Leigh Wood made 5 changes at the break with O'Keefe, Middleton, Brougham, Larkin and Foster all taking to the pitch City. A solid second period produced some quality, flowing football at times but ultimately not City did not manage to find the net throughout the next 45, despite chances falling to Nightingale and O'Keefe.
City made it through to their third consecutive Manchester FA Women's Cup final and will face either AFC Oldham or City of Manchester Ladies.
Pleased with today's result manager Leigh Wood summed things up at the final whistle, "I'm really proud of the players today, we took the game to Curzon from the off, playing with a good tempo and creating a host of chances, scoring 7 good goals. Just as pleasing was the way we controlled the play in the 2nd half, keeping the ball well and then attacking when the opportunity arose, well played Ladies."
