Manchester City Ladies consolidated their place at the top of the table with a 3-2 victory over rivals Curzon Ashton at the weekend.
The visitors may occupy the bottom slot in the table, but they gave the Blues an almighty square, coming back from 2-0 down to level the scores before the hosts wrestled back the advantage to edge the five-goal thriller.
Becky Grocott put City ahead on 31 minutes after fine work by Krystal Johnson and Leigh Wood’s side doubled their advantage a minute after the break when Lindsey Savage powered through from midfield to tuck the ball home.
Curzon were far from finished and hit back immediately with two goals in four minutes to level the scores and threatened to cause a major upset as they pressed for a third.
But it was City who scored the all-important fifth goal with Sarah Danby grabbing what proved to be the winner on 69 minutes.
