City girls crowned UK champions

  • 30 May 2009 09:00

Our girls have finished the season in real style - Manchester City Ladies Under-14s have been crowned United Kingdom champions after beating Celtic 4-2 in a thrilling penalty shoot-out after extra time.

Sir Trevor Brooking, former Republic of Ireland midfielder Andy Townsend and England women's goalkeeper Rachel Brown were at Bolton's Reebok Stadium to see City's girls win the home countries Tesco UK final.

Chloe Ferguson was named as defender of the tournament for City, who represented England to see of stiff competition from Ireland's Sion Swifts, beaten 2-0 in the semi-final, before facing Scotland's finest.

Coach Tony Chaloner said: "Scotland beat Wales 4-0 in the semi-final and gave us a really tough game but never tested our goalkeeper. Even though we had the edge the game was stalemate after extra time, but these girls just don’t like to get beaten."

The triumphant City squad was: Alex Brooks, Chloe Ferguson, Holly Marshall, Rachel Jones, Holly Brady, Georgia Brougham, Olivia Chaloner, Molly Coombe, Kyesha Brown, Sophie Atkinson, Rachel Moss, Jordan Bailey, Demi Dickson, Caitlin Hayes, Jess Bradshaw-Jones and Olivia Bradshaw-Jones.
