City continued their unbeaten league form with an impressive 4-0 thumping of the Magpies on a bleak Sunday afternoon in the North East.
The Ladies started the game on the same high tempo that put paid to Villa’s efforts the week before, and as early as the second minute of the game Krystle Johnson was testing Newcastle’s keeper with a shot from a corner.
Two minutes later City broke the deadlock when Becky Grocott headed home to give City the lead. Newcastle rallied and got back into the game for a short period until Johnson got on the end of a long pass from Lindsay Savage to go one on one with the keeper before making it 2-0 with only 37 minutes gone.
The game was almost put beyond Newcastle’s reach when Fliss Middleton headed home five minutes from the break only to have the goal disallowed for an alleged push on the keeper.
The second half started much the same with City dominating possession and being allowed to play their passing game. City’s Sarah Danby made it 3-0 on the hour with the second header of the game, and just eight minutes later Becky Grocott got her second and City’s fourth when she coolly converted a low cross from the right to beat the keeper at the far post.
City continued to dominate the game, allowing the City manager to use his three substitutes to keep the team fresh, however Abbie McManus twisted her knee and was unable to continue with five minutes to go leaving City to see out the with only 10 players.
Manager Leigh Wood said, "A good three points today in what could have been a tough game. We dominated from start to finish scoring four very good goals. We now look forward to Leeds City Vixens away next week. Well done everyone."
