Sixteen unemployed men from Manchester have been completing their FA Level One coaching badge this week with CITC as part of the community scheme’s Success Through Sport project.
The Success Through Sport scheme is designed to help unemployed men between the ages of 18 – 25 get back into work by getting them more physically active and improving their skills and confidence.
Each week CITC works with 30 participants at two venues in Manchester, the Platt Lane Leisure Complex in Fallowfield and the Nicholls Centre in Ardwick.
Since the scheme began in April last year CITC has helped 40 people gain an accredited qualification and four people find full time employment.
The project, which is funded and supported by NHS Manchester, also aims to improve the health of participants with NHS Health Trainers at sessions to give advice and support.
CITC’s Men’s Health Project Manager Steven Turner said: “The Success Through Sport project is proving to be very successful, all participants who complete the 8 week course get the chance to do their coaching awards.
“Once they have passed we will signpost them to junior football clubs so that they can volunteer and use the skills they have learnt.”
The Success Through Sport project runs at the following times:
Tuesday 1pm – 3pm
Nicholls Centre, The Manchester College, Hyde Road, Manchester, M12 6BA
Thursday 1.30pm – 3.30pm
The Platt Lane Leisure Complex, Yew Tree Road, Fallowfield, Manchester, M14 7UU
