- 13 September 2008 10:00
Manchester City Football Club is delighted to announce that The New Children’s Hospital Appeal has been chosen as one of our two nominated charities for the 2008-09 season.
The New Children’s Hospital Appeal, with a current total of £15 million, aims to raise £20 million to support projects that will enhance the provision of care in the new children’s hospital. The Appeal aims to provide more advanced equipment for better diagnosis and treatment and parental accommodation on or close to the wards so that parents can stay close to their child during treatment.
The Club is specifically raising money to support a fantastic play area. This new area will provide a place for patients and their families to relax and have some fun whilst also improving a child’s health and wellbeing and encouraging mobility and social interaction.
City fans can make a world of difference to the region’s children by helping to raise money for the Appeal. Official Club partner Britannia Building Society has opened an account for fans to make donations to the Appeal or to pay in the money they have raised through sponsorship or fundraising events. Cheques should be made payable to CITC New Children’s Hospital Appeal or payments can be made in person at any Britannia branch to account number 343548834.
And fans who plan or take part in events to raise money for this fantastic cause will be celebrated in the match day programme and Club website. Send the Club details of your event, how much you raised and a photograph and we’ll thank you personally for your efforts. Email your details to firstname.lastname@example.org
Executive Chairman Garry Cook visited the New Children’s Hospital site on Thursday, taking a tour of the facility with Trust Chairman Peter Mount and Appeal Director David Cain. Garry said:
“Manchester City has always been renowned as a community club and this partnership is another example of how much we value our local community. This is a great partnership for all concerned and any way in which the Club, its staff and its fans can support this great cause will help develop what will be a world class facility for the people of Manchester and the North West.”
Speaking of the partnership, Peter Mount said:
“We are well aware of Manchester City’s terrific reputation for its engagement with young people and that it has always set the pace for working within the local community. It is vitally important therefore that the Appeal works with the Club and its supporters because this is Manchester’s hospital. ”
The new hospital, set to open in 2009, will be located right in the heart of Manchester providing a new state-of the-art home for Manchester’s much loved Booth Hall and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospitals – making it the largest children’s hospital in the UK.
Manchester’s existing children’s hospitals currently receive over 150,000 patient visits a year from children all over the region. The new children’s hospital will have over 380 beds and additional operating theatres, as well as outdoor play spaces, a ‘chill-out’ area for teenage patients and sitting rooms for parents. The benefits of the new children’s hospital will impact on thousands of patients throughout Manchester and the North West each year.
Today’s home game against Chelsea marks the launch of our partnership and the Appeal is the beneficiary of the day’s ground collection so please give generously.
The Club will also continue to support its community scheme, City in the Community, as its other nominated charity for the forthcoming season.
