New season, new approach to car parking

Having reviewed feedback from supporters over the past 12-months, it was clear from listening to fans that car park egress and match day transport was an area that required improvement.

To improve the situation, the Club and Council instructed a leading transport planning consultancy Aecom, to review the current traffic management plan and make recommendations for the future. This review included listening to fan feedback and meeting with various supporter groups who regularly attend the Etihad Stadium.

The Club plans to introduce a range of new measures over coming weeks to improve the exit for supporters parking on-site. We will review these changes periodically and welcome feedback from supporters at all stages.

One key recommendation to improve the speed of exit from our official on site car parks at the end of the match is to reduce the amount of cars crossing north to south along Alan Turing Way and to reduce the conflict between cars and pedestrians at the junction of Briscoe Lane and Alan Turing Way. The first measure to be introduced relates to the exit routes from the North and East car parks.

At peaks times (immediately post match for approx. 45 minutes) all the North Car Parks (1, 2 and 3) will operate as a left turn only exit and East Car Park will operate as a right turn only exit. This measure was introduced for the Take That concerts and worked well in clearing traffic. When traffic begins to move more freely, both lanes will be made available.

A further measure piloted last season relates to the right turn lane into Briscoe Lane. Due to heavy traffic on Briscoe Lane backing up onto Alan Turing Way, the right turn lane will be closed to traffic heading north along Alan Turing Way for a short while after the final whistle.

Supporters paying on the day are advised to park in the North Car Park as East Car Park has been pre-sold and will not accept any cash sales on the day. Parking in the North Car Park costs £10 for cars and £30 for non-supporter club coaches

Disabled parking is also available on-site; however it is limited due to the number already allocated to our members. Please call our Disabled Liaison Officer Hayley Crook on 0161 444 1894 (option 1) or email disabledtickets@mcfc.co.uk for more information.

Supporters who want park slightly further away from the Etihad Stadium are advised to park in K2 on Alan Turing Way, if travelling from the south. The K2 site is a 10-15 minute walk from the stadium and costs £7.

The best way to beat the traffic of course is to stay and enjoy the post-match fun in City Square. City Square, with a fully license outdoor bar and café, is a great place to enjoy food and drink and reflect on the game and watch the highlights with City pundits, player interviews and celebrity guests.
