The Club are to hold a special remembrance lunch on 23 September to celebrate the life of our former captain and most decorated player, Mike Doyle.
Doyle famously claimed that there were only two teams in Manchester - City and City reserves - and became an instant hit with fans and fellow players alike.
The unorthodox defender went on to be part of the team that enjoyed a golden era at Maine Road, winning the FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup Winners Cup.
Mike, who had been battling illness for some time, passed away on 27 June, surrounded by his family.
He is remembered fondly by his former team-mate and City’s Club Ambassador Mike Summerbee, who said: “Mike wasn’t just a great player, he was also a great friend and person, who took me under his wing when I first moved to the Club and made me feel welcome.
“He was the most competitive team-mate I have ever had the privilege to play with, incapable of giving less than 100 per cent on the pitch.
"The embodiment of a True Blue, Mike believed he should always play as a City fan would, if they were given the chance to play for the club they loved. He is sadly missed.”
City legends who played alongside Mike during the glory days of the late 60s and early 70s will be at the lunch in the Boardroom Suite at the Etihad Stadium on 23 September.
Proceedings will kick off at noon with a short film about Mike, followed by lunch, a Q&A with City legends, and performances by singer Kristyna Myles.
Tickets are £45 per person. To book or for more information call 0161 444 4141 (option 1) or email events@mcfc.co.uk.
