Staff from Manchester City FC and Umbro have teamed up to tackle Mount Kilimanjaro in a charity challenge that promises to be a week to remember.

Staff from Manchester City FC and Umbro have teamed up to tackle Mount Kilimanjaro in a charity challenge that promises to be a week to remember.

Their gruelling journey starts from Manchester on Wednesday 11 April and continues via Abu Dhabi and Nairobi before they reach their final destination of Tanzania.

That’s where the hard work begins – by 19 April the seven-strong team will have climbed for seven days through rainforest, moorland, high desert and arctic wasteland to reach heights of 5895metres.

David Williams, Gareth Hughes, James Beaumont, Jim Turrell, Nick Power, Rachael Moss and Sarah Dymond can’t wait to get started as our video shows – and it’s all in a good cause, of course.

All funds raised will be split between Shoot for the Moon, the partnership between City and Sport Relief, and Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).

CRY was chosen after two City Academy players were forced to retire from football at 15 after discovering they had life-threatening heart conditions.

You can show your support for the Kilimanjaro team via the website www.justgiving.com/mcfckilimanjaro or by making a test donation.

The phone number to text is 70070. Then text the code MOON88 then the value of your donation, for example MOON88£1 or MOON88£20. All you pay is the donation, no additional charges apply apart from the amount to choose to sponsor.
