City wins Sports Website of the Year award

Your City website was a winner again last night, scooping the award for top sports site at the 2012 Sport Industry Awards.
The Sports Industry top prize is the latest award snaffled up by the site following on from the two Lovies – one for best sports website and one for best news app – won earlier this year.
Ian Cafferky, City’s Chief Brand and Marketing Officer, and Russell Stopford, Head of Digital, accepted the prize in front of a star dusted audience of 1750 at Battersea Evolution.
“We are incredibly proud to win this award which is recognition of the hard work, planning and dedication of the whole team from content providers to digital delivery and from citytv to Aqueduct our development partner,” commented head of content Chris Bailey.
The whole ethos of the site is to give the fans what they want, when they want it, and in the format that want it.
“If there is a secret to being a good sports website then it is getting the balance right. There has to be information and news but it is important to innovate, have fun and entertain. We have a great citytv section which is free and we try to take our fans behind the scenes as often as possible to places where they would probably never go.
“It is also vital to try to engage supporters of all ages and from all over the globe. The diehard fans have to be catered for alongside those who may only just have started following our club.
“Hopefully this award proves that we are doing this reasonably well but we know we can still improve the visitor experience and that is what we will be striving to do in the next 12 months with some more exciting new features.”
