Last weekend’s comeback win over Fulham maintained City’s unbeaten Premier League record this season.
Despite an excellent display from home goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, Roberto Mancini’s men battled back from a goal down to take all three points thanks to Edin Dzeko’s clinical late strike.
This weekend City host Martin O’Neill’s Sunderland with both teams having won their respective Barclays Premier League fixture last weekend.
Sunderland have drawn all three of their away league games this season. O’Neill will want to take all three points back to the Stadium of Light but he’d be happy with a fourth away draw at 9/2.
History is very much in Mancini’s favour. Since the start of the Premier League era Manchester City are unbeaten in eight home games against Sunderland. Winning seven and drawing once, last season’s exciting 3-3 draw. An unlikely repeat of which is 80/1.
In the last three meetings at the Etihad Stadium City have scored a total of 12 games. They are 3/1 to keep that average up by scoring 4 or more goals. You can also get 3/1 on there being a total of more than 4.5 goals in the game.
Mario Balotelli scored a brace in last season’s meeting and if he starts he can be backed at 7/2 to repeat the feat.
Sergio Aguero notched his first Barclays Premier League goal of the season away to Fulham last weekend and he is the favourite to add to that with the first goal at 3/1 with Paddy Power.
In City’s 5-0 home win during the 2010/2011 season Carlos Tevez, Yaya Toure and David Silva all got on the scoresheet. Of the trio Silva offers the biggest potential profit at 8/1 to score first and 12/5 to score anytime. Yaya is 2/1 to score anytime and you can back Tevez at 13/5. The Argentine has scored in two of his last three appearances against Sunderland.
City are short odds-on favourites at 2/7. Although Sunderland have only conceded four goals in five league games this season, Mancini has a collection of attacking talent which would give the best defences in the world sleepless nights.
Another 5-0 romp at 22/1 is worth a small bet but City -2 goals 21/10 is very tempting indeed!
