Hyde FC’s Ewen Fields will play host to the Ken Barnes Memorial Charity Cup on Sunday afternoon which features a whole host of City legends.
Not only will Peter Barnes, Asa Hartford and Ian Bishop be dusting off their boots for the fixture, but winner of five Paralympic gold medals, Sarah Storey and her husband Barney, will be introduced to the crowd and players.
With ticket prices just £5 for adults and £3 for concessions, it’s a great opportunity to see City’s stars of yesteryear in action for a worthy cause, with all proceeds going to Help for Heroes.
The roll call of City legends contesting the game includes Paul Dickov, Uwe Rosler, Andy Morrison, Richard Edghill, Steve Redmond and Eric Nixon for what promises to be a nostalgia-tinged afternoon which will bring all of those old glories straight to the front of the mind.
Also in attendance will be four soldiers from the Mercian regiment who will be going back to Afghanistan in October, so it’s a wonderful opportunity to pay tribute to the armed forces.
It’s a rematch of last season’s thriller when The Goats beat the Ken Barnes XI 5-2. Two each from Mike Sheron and Dickov as well as a goal from Shaun Goater himself helped the Bermudan’s team to victory. Barnes and Rosler hit the replies for the opposition.
There is also a raffle taking place where there will be many fantastic prizes to be won.
£6,000 was raised at last season’s match – let’s see if we can do even better this year!
Venue: Hyde FC – Ewen Fields, Hyde
