Manchester City’s draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday maintains the champions’ unbeaten league start to the season.

Tonight they face Aston Villa in the newly-renamed Capital One Cup, the only domestic competition Roberto Mancini has yet to win with the club. He is 6/1 to add it to his growing collection this season.

Paul Lambert’s Aston Villa side are coming off a 4-1 away defeat to Southampton and are yet to record an away win this season. The four goals they conceded in the second half at St Mary’s and the fact that they are playing at the Etihad could see Villa adopt a more defensive formation.

Manchester City have won five of the last six meetings between the two clubs and six-in-a-row at the Etihad Stadium. At home they’ve scored at least three goals in each of Aston Villa’s last four visits, winning by a margin of two goals or better. In the last three home games against Villa Roberto Mancini’s side have won by at least a three goal margin. Manchester City -1 goal tonight is 5/6 and -2 goals is 21/10.

One big plus from the draw with Arsenal was seeing Sergio Aguero make his first start following his return from injury. The Argentine will benefit from the game time and if he plays tonight he should be that much sharper. He is 3/1 to score first tonight.

Mario Balotelli has scored five goals in Manchester City’s last three home games against Aston Villa. Hitting the net at least once on each occasion. If the Italian starts tonight then the stats tell us he should be backed to score first at 4/1 or to score anytime at 5/6 with Paddy Power.

Not quite as prolific as Balotelli but offering a greater potential profit is Joleon Lescott. He has scored twice against Aston Villa over the last two seasons and having hit the net against Arsenal on Sunday he is certainly worth a look at 15/2 to score anytime. If Paul Lambert does decide to play a defensive game we could see more corners and free-kicks around the Aston Villa penalty area for Manchester City. This will bring the defenders in to play and both Lescott and Vincent Kompany are serious threats from set-pieces. Kompany is 15/2 to score anytime.
