A very special treat awaits Blues taking the tram to the Etihad Stadium on match days.
From now on supporters will have their stops called out by the Barclays Premier League Champions on the way to and from every home game at the Etihad Stadium, starting with the FA Cup fifth round clash with Leeds United on Sunday.
We brought you the news that Metrollink’s new East Manchester line now connects Manchester city centre and the Etihad Stadium on Monday, offering a new way to commute to the match.
Steve Sayer, Director of Operations for Manchester City believes that the new service is a real coup for supporters.
“The new Metrolink service will greatly improve access to the Etihad Stadium for supporters on match days and other visitors to the Etihad Campus during the week,” Sayer said.
“It’s a nice touch for the fans that some of our star players and manager will announce on the way to our home stadium to get everyone in the mood for the match.”
Etihad Campus is the third stop from Manchester Piccadilly. The voiced stops are Piccadilly (Vincent Kompany), New Islington (Joe Hart), Holt Town (James Milner) and Etihad Campus (Roberto Mancini).
Peter Cushing is Transport for Greater Manchester’s Metrolink Director and he expressed his gratitude to the quartet of City stars for their work on the project.
“We are grateful to Roberto, Joe, Vincent and James for taking time out of their busy schedules to record these messages,” Cushing declared.
“We know that the Etihad Campus stop is going to be a very popular destination – especially on match days – and we thought this will be an interesting addition to people’s journeys before and after the game.
“This new stop is an important part of our new East Manchester line which will eventually run from Bury via Manchester Piccadilly to Ashton-under-Lyne.”
