Former City and England winger Peter Barnes has organised a charity match against a Warrington Hospital XI and is hoping Blues’ fans will turn out to support a great cause.

Barnes, who enjoyed two spells with City during the 1970s and 80s,  will play in a team of City Legends  from the past 30 years at the Monk Sport Club (WA1 4NF), Woolston on 28 July (kick-off 2pm).

All monies raised will benefit Warrington Hospital’s Neo Natal Unit where Peter’s daughter Eloise and her husband Jack lost their baby son Alfie last September.

Despite their loss, the care and support the pair received at the hospital convinced them to help raise much needed funds for the unit.

The event has the backing of the PFA and there are plenty of family-orientated events taking place on the day, too.

There will be an MCFC coaching session, kids’ activities sessions, toddler rugby, dancing and arts and crafts as well as bouncy castles, fairground rides, live music, face painting, emergency services plus a bird of prey and a guide dogs display.

With food and drink stalls, competitions to win signed shirts, balls and a host of other items, it should be a fantastic day – all for just £2 per adult and £1 per child.

Doors open at 11am and tickets can be bought on the day or online. City fans can also lend their support to the day by visiting Alfie’s Match Facebook page.
