New MLS Club is the talk of New York

Major League Soccer offices in New York were abuzz this morning with news that New York City Football Club is set to join the soccer franchise.

In was revealed at MLS HQ in midtown that New York City FC will become the 20th member of the MLS and is expected to start competing in the league at the beginning of the 2015-16 season.

Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano said: “We are extremely excited about Manchester City Football club as we are very enthusiastic about the development of soccer in the US.

 

We will build two very good teams [in Manchester and New York] with the aim of winning their respective competitions and both these teams are going to help each other.

“New York is a great sports city and one of the best cities in the world, so this is great news for us.
Randy Levine, President of the New York Yankees added: “Soccer is on the rise in the US and I think it has unlimited potential to grow here.”

“We’ve done some previous business with Manchester City and the people are quality, they stand for excellence.

 

What the Yankees are about is tradition and winning and I think these are values both clubs share.
