It is often said that people will go to any lengths for love and that is certainly the case for this City supporting family from the Shetland Islands!

Richie Gardner, his dad Davie along with his brother Mikey and his eight-year-old stepson Scott will travel hundreds of miles this weekend just to watch their beloved Blues take on Norwich in the last game of the season.

Setting off on Friday afternoon (17 May), they will travel for more than 24 hours over land and sea before finally arriving in Manchester on Saturday evening for the game on Sunday.

“We are very excited about our trip to the Etihad and we hope it is a very special first game for Scott who just celebrated his eight birthday. Seeing his face will be just priceless!” said Richie.

“Due to the distance and the cost, we rarely get down to watch games. We are most likely City’s most Northerly fans in the UK!”

“We are all big Blues, my brother has supported the team since their old second division play-off victory and has stuck by them through thick and thin, so he is very excited too!

“The last game we attended was when City beat Newcastle 2-1 in 2009 and Craig Bellamy and Nigel de Jong made their debuts. So we just can’t wait to get back!”

Our club photographer Victoria Haydn is bravely making the journey with the Gardners and will be documenting their trip. So make sure you check back on Monday for a full gallery of this epic journey!
