The Sky Blues are on the brink of progressing to the Champions League knockout phase for the first time in the club’s history.
A win over CSKA Moscow on Tuesday evening will put City on nine points, a tally that – barring a freak series of results over the last two match-days - should be enough to see Manuel Pellegrini’s men into the last 16 without the need to earn another point.
City are the overwhelming 1/5 favourites to record a second win over CSKA in the group. The Sky Blues left Moscow with a narrow victory, but the stats of the game suggest a different story.
The visitors dominated possession, created more chances and spent more time in their opponents half. A one-goal margin of victory certainly didn’t flatter City and with home advantage on their side this time around a larger margin of victory isn’t out of the question.
Two of City’s five Champions League victories have been by 3-0 score-lines and its 7/1 for a repeat of that on Tuesday. If you fancy a convincing City win, but don’t want to call a specific score-line, backing the Sky Blues to win on the -2 goal handicap at 13/8 could be right up your street. With City likely to dominate possession to an even greater extent at home, backing City to win to nil at 10/11 also looks worth a shot.
Sergio Aguero provided the goals in Moscow and the Argentine is 3/1 to be the First Goal-scorer and 5/2 to score two or more goals in the match.
Alvaro Negredo was unlucky to have a goal ruled out in Moscow for handball and the Spaniard has already found the net against CSKA Moscow in a Champions League game, albeit for Sevilla back in 2010.
Interestingly, of the three goals he has scored in European competition, all three have been the last goal of the match. In may just be a quirky piece of trivia, backing him to the Last Goal-scorer at 3/1 is an interesting option…
