Five goals, a clean sheet and the return from injury of Sergio Aguero – Manuel Pellegrini had a lot to smile about after the 5-0 win over Blackburn.
The Premier League’s second highest goal-scorer returned from a month long injury lay-off with a goal after coming on in the second half.
With fellow strikers Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo both scoring a brace in this game, Pellegrini has the kind of selection problems managers love to have.
Dzeko and Negredo also both scored in City’s only previous Premier League meeting with Cardiff City, a 3-2 defeat at the Cardiff City Stadium back in August.
All three players are worth backing in the goal-scorer markets for this game. Aguero and Negredo are identically priced at 13/5 to score first and 4/9 to score anytime. Dzeko is just behind them at 7/2 to score first and 4/6 to score anytime.
The anytime prices for this threesome may be short but given their respective scoring ratios this season there’s still some value there.
Despite losing to Cardiff in the reverse fixture, the home side are clear 1/7 favourites to win this game. Given City’s last two home results and Cardiff’s away record of just one win from ten away games this season, there will be plenty of money on City -2 goals at evens and City -3 goals at 23/10.
Manchester City to win 5-0 at 13/1 and 6-0 at 25/1 will also see a lot of money this weekend. If you can nail the correct score and the first goal-scorer there’s a bigger profit to be made. Aguero to score first and City to win 5-0 pays out at 33/1.
With Cardiff coming into this game with just one win in their last eleven Premier League games and City holding a 100% domestic record at the Etihad Stadium this season, all signs point towards a home win with plenty of goals.
Over 3.5 goals is priced up at evens and City are 8/13 to keep a clean sheet.
