Manchester City Football Club are joining forces with the UK’s leading heart charity the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to help Manchester residents take their first steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
Manchester has one of the highest death rates from Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) in the UK along with being the single biggest killer of women nationwide. CHD is when the heart's blood supply is blocked or interrupted by a build-up of fatty substances in the coronary arteries.
The partnership is designed to raise awareness of how heart disease affects the people of Manchester and provide resources to help lower the future risk of heart disease. It'll draw upon unique expertise from each organisation to provide free, accessible and knowledgeable advice and initiatives to local residents.
With guidance on how to stop smoking, access to BHF recipes and hosting community events, the partnership hopes to help people of all ages improve their lifestyle and start to lower their future risk of heart disease.
To officially mark of the launch of the partnership, the Etihad Stadium will host the 'City. Heart. Walk.' event for the women of Manchester on Sunday 30 March. MCFC and the BHF invite women of all ages and abilities are to come along to the walk alongside sisters, mothers, daughters and friends and take their first steps towards a healthy heart.
Date: Sunday 30 March
Where: BT City Square, Etihad Stadium
Time: 10:30am - 13:30pm
What is the event?
Manchester City Football Club and the British Heart Foundation are challenging the women of Manchester to get active and take part in one of three walking challenges around the stadium. With activity stations, pamper sessions, a kids zone and some famous faces to cheer you on, it’s the perfect way to spend Mother's Day.
We want to encourage as many women as possible to get involved (supporting kids and dads are more than welcome to come along for moral support).
What’s on offer?
The chance to make small steps to change your lifestyle! All participants will be given free goody bags including pedometers, BHF recipe cards and much more. All guests will also get a free ticket to watch the likes of Toni Duggan and Stephanie Houghton from Manchester City Women’s Football Club play a pre-season friendly match against Aston Villa at the Regional Athletics Arena, Etihad Stadium which starts at 2pm.
A major factor in the high rate of heart disease in Manchester is lifestyle and the event hopes to empower women to have the confidence, motivation and a reason to take their first steps to a healthy heart.
