City, with the support of British Cycling, have created a charity event like no other for 2013 - Velocity.

On Friday 22 March, Velocity will take over the Velodrome at the National Cycling Centre, the home of British Cycling, for 24 hours of non-stop cycling with sporting and celebrity teams.

Most importantly, they will be raising valuable funds for charity. Each team, made up of five riders, will choose their hour between 7pm on Friday 22 March all the way through until 7pm the following day.

Whether tag-teaming the track or going for the most distance, those 60 minutes are the team’s chance to prove their skill on the world famous circuit.

All of the entrance fee will go to MCFC’s charities, plus any sponsorship raised either to the Club’s charities or the competing team’s own charity.

Prizes for fundraisers include a one hour session with a London 2012 cyclist at the National Cycling Centre, tickets to the Track Cycling World Cup and signed jerseys from London 2012 medallists and the Manchester City first team.

British Cycling Performance Director and BBC Sports Personality Coach of the Year Dave Brailsford said: “This promises to be an amazing event and one with which everyone who can ride a bike can become involved.

“Through hard work and a winning mentality, British Cycling and our neighbours at City have enjoyed a lot of success in 2012 and this is a chance for the fans of both sports to come together and celebrate.

“I would encourage everyone to get involved if they can; there are some great prizes but more than that it will be a huge amount of fun for worthy causes.”

City boss Roberto Mancini, a keen cyclist himself, added: “Cycling is one of my long standing sporting passions alongside football so this event is close to my heart.

“I visited the Velodrome recently and had an important exchange of views with David Brailsford.

“Cycling is a great way to get fit and something we can all do. Young and old, men and women, adults and children can all get involved in Velocity and I encourage them to do so. City and British Cycling both want to make this an extra special event and one that becomes an annual fixture in the calendar. Charity will be the big winner and that is fantastic.”

Registrations open on Wednesday 19 December at 9am at which point the team leader needs to pay £100 to reserve the hour. Entrance costs £250 per rider, or £1250 for the whole team of five. All riders must be at least 12 years of age.

The last 12 months have been a glorious year for British Cyclists, and for UK sport. Have your own Olympic moment with Velocity. Push your limits, change a life. Visit for more information.
