City EDS v Middlesbrough: Match preview

Middlesbrough are the visitors to Hyde FC for City Elite Development Squad’s latest Barclays u21 Premier League assignment.

Patrick Vieira’s men are looking to extend their run to three consecutive wins in all competitions when they come up against Jamie Clapham’s men on Friday night.

Last time out, City recorded a 2-0 extra-time win over Stoke City to move into the last 16 of the under-21 Premier League Cup, thanks to goals from Albert Rusnak and Angelino.

City can move up three places in a tight league table with victory over the Teesiders and may be able to welcome Marcos Lopes back to the fold after the 17-year old tyro resumed full training recently.

If the Portuguese youth international doesn’t make it, Vieira can call upon plenty of firepower in advanced areas.

John Guidetti may be handed an opportunity to catch Manuel Pellegrini’s eye, Devante Cole struck twice against Plzen in midweek and Jordi Hiwula is in a rich vein of goalscoring form ahead of this clash.

Elsewhere, Mathias Bossaerts returned to action against Plzen on Wednesday and will be hoping to be involved at under-21 level after his lay-off and Jose Angel Pozo scored his first goal since returned from his ankle injury in the UEFA Youth League victory.

Middlesbrough are level on 9 points with City and one place behind in 20th.

We will have live Twitter updates and a full match report here on on the night.

Kick-off is at 7pm at Hyde FC and entry is £3 for adults, £1 for concessions.
