City EDS midfielder Emyr Huws has won his first call up to the Wales national team.
Joining a stellar list of names including Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen, Emyr will be in the frame for his first international cap when Wales entertain Finland at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Huws joined City from Swansea in 2009 and has gone on to prove himself as one of the most promising midfielders in the club’s youth ranks.
“Patrick [Vieira] took me aside on Wednesday morning and told me the news and I was shocked,” Huws told mcfc.co.uk.
“I’ve played a few games with the under-21s and I think I did well considering I haven’t been 100% fit this season – I had a problem with my metatarsal but I think that’s behind me now.
“It took a while to get back fully up to speed but now I’m feeling good, I’ve worked hard and I can’t wait to join up with the squad.
“It’ll be good to meet up with the team and train and hopefully I’ll get the chance to make my debut!”
A successful six-month loan spell at Northampton Town last season added to Emyr's growing reputation in the game, with the Llanelli born 20-year old featuring in ten games for the Cobblers.
Huws made his debut for Wales under-21s in March 2013’s 1-0 win over Moldova and scored his first goal at that level in August - ironically against Saturday's opposition, Finland.
His international call-up comes at the end of a remarkable year for the youngster who also travelled with the City first-team on their post-season tour to the USA and the pre-season tours to South Africa and Hong Kong.
He played his first game for the senior team in City's 4-3 win over Chelsea at St Louis Cardinals Stadium on 23 May.
The all-action midfielder has made four appearances for City EDS this season in all competitions after missing the start of the campaign through injury.
We’ll let you know if Emyr features for Wales in our international round-up over the weekend.
