Euro watch: Aris miss the target again

Aris didn't enjoy the best of preparation for Thursday's Europa League second leg at the City of Manchester Stadium with a disappointing goalless draw against modest Atromitos in the Greek Super League.
While City were honing their scoring skills with the 5-0 FA Cup replay win over Notts County, the Thessaloniki outfit - held goalless by the Blues in last week's first leg - were drawing another blank.
Nery Castillo, a City player during Sven Goran Eriksson's time in charge, had a great chance to collect all three points for Aris but the Mexican midfielder, on loan from Shakhtar, shot against the foot of a post.
Former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko was among Dynamo's scorers as they eased themselves in the driving seat to face either City or Aris for a place in the quarter-finals.
Besiktas' task will be that much harder in Kiev after Portugal's Ricardo Quaresma was sent off for violent conduct in the dying seconds to rule himself out of Thursday's showdown.
And their morale took a further dent when they lost 4-2 at home to Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce. Brazilian Alex scored a hat-trick as the Black Eagles surrendered a 2-1 second-half lead and finished with ten men.
