Euro watch: Dynamo keep their focus

Dynamo Kyiv are refusing to give up the chase for the Ukrainian Premier League title as they prepare to defend their 2-0 first leg Europa League lead at the City of Manchester Stadium.

When leaders Shakhtar Donetsk made an uncharacteristic slip on Sunday, Andriy Shevchenko's side were quick to pounce for the victory that narrows the gap at the top to a still-daunting nine points.

Their 2-0 triumph over Vorskla Poltava in the Valeriy Lobanovsky Stadium was their third successive win by that scoreline and their fifth consecutive victory as they race out of their winter break.

Coach Yuriy Semin’s men, who face City on Thursday, kicked off an hour after Shakhtar Donetsk had lost 1-0 to Karpaty Lviv. The win also gives them a six-point lead over nearest pursuers FC Metalist Kharkiv.

The White-Blues struggled early on and the first half remained goalless. However, two second-half goals in as many minutes from Artem Kravets and substitute Andriy Yarmolenko decided the game.

The first goal came on 58 minutes when Kravets collected a long pass and eluded the Vorskla defence before shooting beyond the visiting keeper. Then Yarmolenko doubled Dynamo's advantage with an almost identical strike.
