Mike Summerbee was "arrested" last Friday, and one of City's nominated charities felt the benefit.
The legendary Club Ambassador was hauled away by the local constabulary while attending a business breakfast at Manchester’s Malmaison Hotel and charged with “30 years of shameless self promotion” and “blatantly mentioning ‘Escape to Victory’ in every other sentence”.
As he was bundled into a waiting police van, Mike was heard to shout, “It looks there will be no ‘Escape’ for me this time!”
But thankfully Mike's incarceration only lasted a couple of hours, as his bail of £1,000 was posted with every penny going to St Ann's Hospice, one of City's five nominated charities for this season.
St Ann's helps over 3000 people each year in Greater Manchester, providing care and support for patients, families and carers living with a life-limiting illness. All donations make a huge difference - the hospice needs £16,000 a day to operate, and 92p in every £1 goes directly on patient care. You can contribute via our JustGiving page.
Here's a photo gallery of the day's events, and we also smuggled out a secret, behind-the-scenes video of what went down when Mike went down:
