City Blogger: A poetic look-back at 2013

Steven Allweis, author of the excellent View from a Blue blog treats us to his review of 2013... in a poem!

Mancini had gone, success secured,
But frequent battles fought,
Replacing him was the Engineer,
Pellegrini’s calmness sought.

Fernandinho signed, all hustle and bustle,
Patrolling and controlling space,
Room for one more, so out on the wing
Came Navas and blistering pace,

Negredo joined, too, a hero did sign,
And quickly acclaimed The Beast,
Aggressive and strong with a delicate touch,
In front of goal he did feast.

It started so well, mesmeric at home,
The Geordies hit for four,
But then on the road we struggled, it seemed,
Away from the Etihad roar.

A loss down in Cardiff, a draw against Stoke,
Our title hopes in doubt?
Don’t speak too soon as then came the derby,
A special, a memorable rout.

Progression in the Champions League
With games to go was heaven.
A thumping of Norwich and goals galore,
Our skill and class oozed seven.

Spurs were next up, with Navas on fire,
Just thirteen seconds to strike.
To watch our play, pure waves of attack,
Was a joy, an utter delight.

Then Milner’s moment, at Bayern away,
The winner from 2-0 down,
Character, fight and spirit on show,
The Champions shocked on their ground.

Arsenal pummelled by slickness and style,
Unable to handle the Blues,
Hit for six by the magic on show,
The Gunners were shell-shocked to lose.

Liverpool beaten, a pulsating affair,
Negredo the hero with spin,
Then Palace arrived, intent on defence,
One goal was enough for the win.

Happy New Year to all of you Blues,
Let’s hope we go all the way,
To Lisbon and Wembley as Premier Kings,
The Blue Moon has risen – Hooray!
