Blue Blogger: The quarter finals beckon

The magic of the cup. It’s still got it. Time moves on but the FA Cup still has all the magic of years gone by for me.
It’s easy to reminisce about when I was a kid, growing up in the late 80s and the days of Mel Machin and Howard Kendall, and losing against Notts County in the 5th round, although the innocence of youth didn’t even put a rosy sheen on that result.
I’d always look forward to those cup fixtures. If you had told me in 1998 after we’d dropped down to Division 2 we would win the FA Cup in 2011 then I would have asked kindly for you to share some of whatever it was that was alleviating your mood.
But now I’m grateful having witnessed that moment! And because of that I can believe that this year our name is on the cup. It’s not been the best couple of weeks in the league, which is more the reason to take on Leeds with all the determination of any big game. We need it. This can cement our place in the quarter finals.
There’s no question about it, Leeds are gonna be up for it. City in the cup at The Etihad is a big scalp. After a couple of not-so-decent results Roberto’s gotta pick a team that’s gonna go out there and play with heart and for the shirt.
I’m looking forward to this one. Leeds are a team with a great pedigree and I can remember sitting in the North Stand when we played Leeds in the old Division One, giving John Lukic grief from behind the goal. At the time I was mortified that it might have been me that put Alan Harper off as he got under his penalty and sent it somewhere close to the stratosphere.
I’m pretty sure this time my adolescent bellowing won’t have an impact on us reaching the quarter final! Things have changed since then. C’mon blues!
