Pre-season; the time for the hard work to begin all-over again and when provisions for another hectic campaign are forged.
It’s also the time when the world’s elite clubs jet-off to all four corners of the globe for rigorous, high-altitude training camps, promotional tours and preparatory games against some of the more obscure sides residing within the gloriously diverse and colourful footballing landscape.
City’s recent summer expeditions have been amongst the most glamorous pre-season adventures the club have embarked on, with exciting visits stateside and to the Far East to face some of the world’s top opposition.
Down the years, the Blues’ off-season tours haven’t always been as far-flung with journeys to the Isle of Man, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Scandinavia on high-rotation during the late eighties and nineties.
With that, we are interested in hearing from fans that have spent their summer holidays with City; watching the Blues take on some of the world’s lesser-known opposition at the most remote stadia on the football map.
Did you catch the Blues against Iceland’s Thor Akureyri in August 1981, Finland’s IF Kraft in 1989, or maybe you were amongst the crowd to see the lads take on unknown Italian quantity US Fiave in 1992?
If you have got a story and some photos to share from an obscure summer jaunt to get your City fix, email them in and we’ll feature the best on mcfc.co.uk as we build-up to the start of the Blues’ anticipated South Africa journey later this month.
