Twitter must-follows @StatCity are back to provide a numerical look-ahead to every City game this season. Here are the numbers that matter ahead of Saturday's game against the Hammers...
The 95th meeting between Manchester City and West Ham United takes place this Saturday in the Premier League’s tea-time kick off. The other 94 meetings have seen 43 City victories (45.74%), 16 draws (17.02%) and 35 defeats (37.23%). The Blues have scored 145 goals against West Ham, averaging 1.54 goals per game. City have conceded 139 times against the East London outfit at a rate of 1.47 goals per game. The Blues have kept 27 clean sheets in this fixture (28.72%) and have failed to score in just 22 of the last 94 meetings (23.40%).
In the Premier League the two teams are meeting for the 25th time, a competition in which City have only lost one of their last 12 meetings with West Ham. The Blues have won 12 of the previous 24 Premier League bouts (50.00%) against the Hammers, drawn 5 (20.83%) and have lost just 7 (29.17%). City have only won more Premier League games against Aston Villa (18) and Newcastle United (16) than against West Ham (12). The Blues have scored 32 goals against West Ham in the Premier League and have conceded 25. City have kept 9 clean sheets and have only failed to score themselves on 7 occasions.
Yaya Toure usually enjoys his games against West Ham United. Twitter’s newest City star has scored three goals in his last four Premier League games against the Hammers (if we turn a blind eye to Robert Green’s own goal!). The Ivorian is in fine form this season too, having either scored or assisted in five of his seven league appearances this season. Yaya’s importance to the City side is highlighted by the fact that he is the most ‘passed to’ player in the Premier League this season. The midfield powerhouse has received 462 passed from his team-mates this term.
Another City player in a rich vein of form at the minute is new-boy Alvaro Negredo. The Beast of Vallecas has scored three and assisted two in seven league appearances despite only making four starts. The Spaniard has also scored a whopping 20 league goals in the calendar year of 2013 across his stints in La Liga and the Premier League.
Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping to halt his side’s slide when it comes to away Premier League games. The Blues have taken 13 points this season so far, with an eye-watering 12 of them being won at home at the Etihad Stadium (92.31%). City’s solitary away point came at Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium back in September. The Blues have only won 1 of their last 6 Premier League away games.
In the 15 Premier League games that have kicked off at 17:30, City have only lost 4 (26.67%), drawn 3 (20.00%) and have won the remaining 8 (53.33%).
Let’s hope that City’s Saturday night takeaway consists of 3 points.
