England Women take on Sweden in a friendly on Sunday afternoon at Victoria Park, Hartlepool.

The Three Lionesses face a side who sit fifth in the FIFA rankings and captain Steph Houghton believes the clash will provide the ideal preparation for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

"It's probably a perfect test for us ahead of the Wales qualifier," the skipper told the FA's website. "When you want to be the best team, you’ve got to play the best.

"We’ve got a team full of world class individuals and as a team, we want to be playing against those types of players.

"It’s about a winning mentality. The games we go into we want to win and we want to win well and we want to perform. It’s all about playing for your places still."

Midfielder Jill Scott is also relishing the encounter, which allows her to return back up north to her roots.

"It's fantastic," she smiled. "I've been talking to Steph [Houghton] a lot about it recently. It’s great for our families to be able to come and watch without travelling six hours to London.

"There's a massive support for women’s football in the north-east. Whenever I'm home, I go to the Sunderland Women’s matches and there's just so much support up there.

"Hopefully, we can prove that again on Sunday, get a good crowd behind us and get the win."

Kick-off is at 2pm on Sunday 3 August. Tickets for the game are on sale now and priced at £5 for adults and £2.50 for children and concessions.
