Kieran Kennedy's late goal ensured City’s U18s enjoyed a winning start to the campaign with a thrilling 4-3 away victory in the midlands.
The young Blues couldn’t have wished for a better start, with Devante Cole putting City ahead just 30 seconds into the game.
City then doubled their lead when Emyr Huws converted a penalty, but a spot-kick at the other end allowed Coventry to pull a goal back on the brink of half time.
The Blues fired back after the interval with in-form 17-year-old midfielder Alex Henshall finding the net. But the home side piled pressure on and, after scoring again, managed to find an equaliser to make it 3-3.
Despite the equaliser, City remained determined and resolute to control the final 10 minutes. The visitors managed to find the winner with the last kick of the game through England youth star Kieran Kennedy.
Head of Academy Mark Allen said: “It was a pleasing start and an exciting game. However we are looking for a more consistent performance. We were good in patches but we need to be good for the whole game.”
