A six-goal crackajack ended with the ten-man Blues losing 4-2 to Blackburn.

City played the majority of the match a man short after defender Ellis Plumber was shown the red card for handling in the box.

Albert Rusnak grabbed a goal in the second half to spark a comeback but it wasn't enough for the Blues against a well-organised and strong Blackburn side.

Adam Sadler was forced to ring the changes after many of his first team side featured in City's NextGen Series 4-1 defeat in Barcelona on Thursday night.

The visitors started with a bang, piling on the pressure from the start

But Rovers initially struggled to create a real opening and it was City who lit the blue touchpaper to gain an early advantage.

With 11 minutes gone, Rovers were caught on the break and Blackburn goal-keeper Chris Dilo spilled a speculative shot only and winger Alex Henshall slotted home from a few yards out.

It wasn't long before Rovers found an equaliser, with striker Osayamen Osawe netting just five minutes later following a goal-mouth scramble.

The first half continued in the same manner, with Blackburn dominating possession and play. Their strike-force, comprising of Curtis Haly and Osawe always looked menacing, and their physical presence proved a challenge for City's young defence.

The Blues' day was made even more difficult when Plummer was shown the red card for hand-balling Ryan Edwards' goal-bound effort on the line. Rovers' midfielder Jack O'Connell took the resulting penalty and made no mistake.

After the break the visitors extended their lead, Edwards sauntered through the City defence and found Osawe who scored.

Ten-man City refused to be beaten and found an immediate response. George King burst through the midfield and fed Rusnak who curled the ball home.

Rovers had a goal disallowed for offside as the frenetic pace continued and it was Blackburn who scored the final goal via an explosive second from Haley, a screaming shot from the edge of the box.

Blackburn's win means the Rovers now occupy top spot in the League. The Blues face a trip to Everton next week.
