A John Guidetti penalty gave the City EDS team a hard-fought but well-deserved win over Liverpool at Ewen Fields on Monday evening.

Andy Welsh's side had the better of the first half but clear-cut chances were few and far between. Harry Bunn, of three starts still at the Academy, skied one good chance and went wide with another. Strike partner John Guidetti forced Liverpool keeper Martin Hansen into a save with a shot on the spin, while Liverpool's only decent chance saw Fernandez sting Johansen's palms with a long range effort.

City took the lead just before the break through Guidetti. The Swede, a constant threat, was hauled down inside the penalty area and eagerly took the ball for the resulting spot kick where he sent Hansen the wrong way.

The visitors upped the tempo after the break, but the Blues stayed resolute. Ince rifled a shot just over on 63 minutes, and Fernandez twice forced Johansen into making saves.

Guidetti should have sealed the game in stoppage time but his missed opportunity did not matter, with City good value for a hard-fought win
