Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.

Monday 7th August 1978

Norwegian part-timers Hamar were put to the sword by a touring City team. 

The Blues, who had already drawn 1-1 with Djurgaarden and beaten Fredrikstadt 5-0 during the previous week, strolled home 7-0 with Brain Kidd notching a brace – his sixth and seventh goals of the tour – plus another two from Tony Henry and efforts from Colin Bell, Asa Hartford and Russell Coughlin to seal the win.

Sunday 7th August 2011

City lost the Community Shield clash with Manchester United after throwing a two-goal lead away at Wembley.

Goals from Joleon Lescott and Edin Dzeko gave the Blues a comfortable two-goal cushion but Chris Smalling and a Nani brace – the last of which came deep into injury time – saw the bragging rights return to Old Trafford - at least until October...
