Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Monday 22nd August 1996
Alan Ball’s final act as City manager is to sign Arsenal reserve striker Paul Dickov for £500,000. ‘Dicky’ never really broke into the Gunners’ first team but he soon becomes popular with the City fans thanks to his phenomenal work rate and never say die attitude. What he lacked in height, he made up with heart.
The £800,000 capture from Arsenal set about terrorising defenders from the word go and what he lacked in height and natural ability, he made up for in sheer guts and effort. He moved to Leicester in 2002 after failing to hold down a first-team spot under Kevin Keegan and later moved to Blackburn Rovers, returning to City in 2006.
