Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Monday 4 July 2011
French international defender Gael Clichy joins City from Arsenal, penning a four-year deal with the Blues. Clichy joins ex-Gunners Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor, Patrick Vieira and Stuart Taylor at the Etihad Stadium and will challenge Aleksandar Kolarov for the first-team left-back berth. He cites a desire for silverware as his reason for leaving the Gunners.
Gael makes the left back berth his own and gets his hands on the trophy he craves in his debut season at the Etihad - part of the side that lifts the Premier League title in 2012.
Chalking up 70 appearances in his first two years in Manchester, the Frenchman commits his long term future to the Blues by signing a new deal in May 2013.
"I'm really happy to have agreed a new deal with City and I'm already looking forward to next season," said Clichy at the time.
"This is a fantastic football club and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I'm really happy and I am sure it will be this way for many years."
