Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Tuesday 29th July 1980
Barry Silkman signed for Brentford after a season and a half with City. The mercurial midfielder had joined the Blues from Plymouth in March 1979 and with his black curly hair, goal-earring and flamboyant style on the pitch, he was every inch a Malcolm Allison signing.

Capable of the odd flash of genius, City was the platform he should have used to propel himself into stardom, but he let the opportunity pass him by and just three goals in 21 appearances tells its own story. Today, Silkman is a successful football agent.
