Memorable moments that happened on this day in City’s history...

Friday 11 June 1971

Ian Bowyer, so long the target of the Maine Road boo-boys joins Leyton Orient after five years with City. Despite Bowyer coming through the club’s youth ranks, for many, his face just didn’t fit, which was a pity for the player and, considering the successes he later had with Nottingham Forest, a shame for City. His goal-scoring record from midfield was phenomenal with 17 in 57 starts as good a record as anyone to play for the club in that position. What he may have gone on to achieve for the Blues can only be guessed.
