Memorable moments that happened on this day in City’s history...
Friday 30 June 1995
With pre-season preparations about to begin and City still managerless following Brian Horton’s sacking, Chairman Francis Lee turns to his old England colleague Alan Ball when it became clear other options were limited. The move for Ball surprised City fans who felt, given his managerial record, he was not the man to take the club forward – and they would be proved right during a miserable 14-month reign that eventually saw the Blues relegated to Division One.
Monday 30 June 1947
Boss and former skipper Sam Cowan resigns after refusing to end his 250-mile commute from Brighton to Manchester after being given an ultimatum by the club's board. With the highest win percentage of any Manchester City manager at that point, Cowan's departure is a massive blow to the Blues. In his only season in charge, he led the club to a Second Division title.
