Memorable moments that happened on this day in City’s history...
Friday 16th June 1950
Goalkeeper Alec Thurlow is forced to retire after spending the majority of his four years at City as an understudy to Frank Swift. His 21 appearances are sporadic but he never lets the Blues down when called upon. Sadly, when his opportunity to make the No.1 shirt his own arose following Swift’s retirement, Alec developed tuberculosis aged only 28. He died six years later.
